An E911 address allows emergency services (fire, medical, and law enforcement) to find your property quickly in an emergency—potentially saving lives.
It is also required for services like telephone, mail delivery, building permits, and insurance.
Make sure your phone company has your correct E911 address. This information automatically shows to 911 dispatchers, helping them send assistance even if the caller can't speak.
Display your address numbers prominently on your building (near the front entrance) and at the driveway entrance. Use numbers that contrast with the background and are visible from the road—day and night (reflective materials recommended).
Minimum Address Number Sizes
- Residential homes and most businesses: At least 3 inches high and 1½ inches wide
- If set back from the road (long driveway): Additional set at driveway entrance – at least 3 inches high, on a post at least 48 inches above ground
- Apartment buildings & high-rises: At least 6 inches high at main entrance; individual unit numbers on or near each door
- Industrial/commercial in low-density areas: At least 10 inches high, visible from the road
