About Mosquito Control

There are more than 75 mosquito species in Florida. While fewer than two dozen species warrant control, any mosquito that bites can be a nuisance or health risk.

Habitat & Source Reduction

Eliminating breeding sites is the most effective way to control mosquitoes. Use the "Drain and Cover" method.

  • DRAIN: Standing water from birdbaths, gutters, and toys.
  • EMPTY: Pet bowls and birdbaths twice weekly.
  • PROTECT: Use tarps on boats that don't collect water.
  • MAINTAIN: Keep pool chemistry balanced and repair screens.
  • CLOTHING: Wear long sleeves and pants when active outside.
  • REPELLENT: Use products containing DEET or Picaridin.
