Columbia County Announces 'Toxic Roundup' Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event for March 2026Lake City, FL – Columbia County residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste during the upcoming "Toxic Roundup" event on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
The free collection will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Winfield Solid Waste Facility, located at 1347 NW Oosterhoudt Lane in Lake City. The event is designed to keep dangerous materials—such as old paints, pesticides, cleaning chemicals, automotive fluids, electronics, batteries, propane tanks, and other toxic substances—out of landfills, waterways, and regular trash collection.
Improper disposal of these items can contaminate groundwater, harm wildlife, and pose risks to public health. By participating in the Toxic Roundup, residents help protect local springs, reduce fire hazards, and prevent accidental poisonings.
This annual or periodic collection is part of ongoing efforts by local solid waste authorities to promote safe environmental practices. Residents are encouraged to label items clearly and arrive prepared for drop-off.
For questions or to confirm accepted items, contact the Winfield Solid Waste Facility or check Columbia County's Solid Waste Management resources. Mark your calendars—this is an important chance to declutter responsibly!
