About Public Works
The Public Works Department builds and maintains Columbia County's roads and stormwater drainage systems. We deliver efficient, timely, and safe maintenance of county roads and rights-of-way, oversee road construction contracts, maintain bridges, and repair vehicles and heavy equipment.
Road and Bridge Maintenance
- Drainage, mowing, grading, and right-of-way trimming
- Grading follows a two-week rotating cycle by district
Transportation Improvement
Paved roads typically need reconditioning or resurfacing every 5–20 years, depending on age, surface type, traffic volume, drainage, and truck usage.
